Welcome to month two of practical cooking! This month we’re talking spices. What they are, how to use them, how to improvise with them, making your own blends, why there are so many, do you really need 4 kinds of paprika, etc. Instead of a massively long post, I’m going to break it up into several chunks throughout the month so if there’s something you’re dying to know, leave a comment/send an email and we’ll talk about it. Easy peasy.
For now though, and by way of introduction, I’ve made you a handy little chart of the standard spices I have in my pantry. There are tons more and variations of each but these are things I try to keep around. I’m also a bit of a spice hoarder so have shelves of fun stuff but you don’t really need all of them. Having these few basics will get you all set up and from them you can make pretty much anything and any spice blend. Win!
